This is "Waffle File Server" (WFS) Release 3.0.0. 28-May-93.
Waffle File Server (WFS) provides a number of add-on functions for
MS-DOS based Waffle.
The Mail Based Archive Server (MBAS) permits files from Waffle's
files system to be retrieved by remote users via email. Files are
sent as ascii files, uuencoded, or xxencoded depending on SysOp
and/or user specified controls. Mailed files are divided into parts
suitable for mailing; the size of the parts is under SysOp control.
The MBAS has access to files via Waffle's DIRS file. Under SysOp
control, WFS may have access to files not available to interactive
users. Similarly, WFS may be restricted to a subset (or none) of the
files available to interactive users. In all cases, WFS limits file
access to only those directories specified by the SysOp. Your
system's security is maintained by WFS.
The Automatic Mail (AutoMail) facility provides automatic reply for
any mail addressed to a specific UserID at the site. The feature
frees you from manual replies to requests for information and other
routine mail.
The Remote Command Execution Facility (RCEF) provides the SysOp a
means to invoke commands of his(her) own invention by sending mail to
WFS via email. This feature provides the SysOp control of his BBS via
email from a remote site.
The Mailing List Server (MLS) provides full mailing lists facilities.
Multiple mailing lists are supported and are isolated from
interaction. A rich set of configuration options control individual
mailing list customization. Open, Moderated and Digest mailing lists
are supported. Mailing list managers may logon interactively to
Waffle to change most mailing list configuration controls; SysOp
intervention is required only to create or remove a mailing list in
its entirity.
Many of WFS configuration options are integrated with Waffle's STATIC
and DIRS files for fully integrated system management. Other WFS
configuration and control files are kept in Waffle's USER directory
tree. Configuration file syntax is compatible with Waffle's. This
provides SysOps a reduced learning curve; you get WFS up fast.
Configuration options permit traffic rate limiting on a per message
and/or a per day basis. Your interactive users are not affected by
high volume server traffic.
Password security is implemented for WFS control messages, enhancing
your system's security.
Execution of most facilities, especially those that may generate a
lot of outbound mail, may be defered (queued) for a time of day when
telephone rates are likely to be less expensive.
Users, sites, domains may be denied access to WFS's features via a
"denylist" file. Additional access controls may be implemented by
the SysOp via a User Exit program; a sample User Exit source program
in C is provided in the WFS ZIP file. Nusiance users can be excluded.
WFS effectively detects and suppresses bounce loops.
WFS logs all its activity in the WFSLOG file in Waffle's ADMIN
directory for full auditability.
Extensive documentation is included in the "WFS User Guide and
Reference", about 60 pages, machine readable.
WFS is compatible with MS-DOS Waffle releases 1.65 and 1.66. WFS has
been tested with MS-DOS 3.3, 5.0, 6.0 on machines using 8088 to 80486
processors. WFS is compatible with DblSpace; it is likely to be
compatible with other disk compression software, but it has not been
tested in other configurations. WFS requires about 400K of disk
storage to install. Depending on your use, operation may require
additional disk storage, especially for temporary files. Main storage
use is a function of configuration options, primarily the number of
DIRS file entries.
WFS was originally written entirely in Microsoft C 5.0. It evolved
through Microsoft C 6.0 and is now compiled under Microsoft Visual
C/C++, Version 1.0.
WFS is ShareWare. Registration is $20.00 US for individual domestic
users, $25.00 US for individual foreign users. Commercial Enterprise,
Government Agencies, Education Institutions, and Not-for-Profits are
asked to submit an RFP. Terms are generally liberal. Specifics are
contained in the documentation.
